“We continue to develop our portfolio as we invest in plant breeding to bring UK growers, advisers and the seed trade varieties with increased yield added to improved agronomic characters.
The PGRO Recommended Lists show our spring bean varieties taking the top four places. Lynx is at the head of the list again with the highest yield, and a downy mildew rating of ‘7’ that is only matched by its newly-listed stable mate Mallory. Lynx is set to be the most popular spring bean variety on farms in 2018 along with LSPB’s Fanfare and Vertigo, also fully recommended.
Our newly listed large blue peas Bluetime and Blueman are at the top of the PGRO combining pea list with Blueman having a highest possible ‘9’ rating for downy mildew. Campus has a strong position in the marketplace and an excellent reputation with both end users and growers.
Our Marrowfat variety, Aikido, maintains its position as the leading variety in its class and is fully recommended on the PGRO list.
The new AHDB winter oilseed rape Recommended Lists show LSPB’s hybrid variety Wembley maintaining its consistent gross output performance in the East-West region. The variety has good agronomic characters with stem stiffness, high resistance to lodging, good autumn vigour, spring vigour and early flowering time - plus resistance to light leaf spot and stem canker.
Mentor is the only winter oilseed rape variety with a specific recommendation for clubroot in both North and East-West regions of the AHDB Recommended List. It is recommended for growing on land infected with clubroot and is resistant to common strains of clubroot, although not all.
In the longer term, we have further improved oilseed rape and pulse varieties progressing in private and official trials. We are also starting to see the first varieties from our developing cereal breeding programme.
We are proud of our success - from our beginnings as two companies with a long pedigree in plant breeding of oilseeds, pulses, cereals and forage crops - to being wholly owned by NPZ-Lembke, a privately-owned, plant breeding company with a long track record of bringing successful varieties to UK growers.”
