NEW HIGH-YIELDING COMBINING PEA VARIETIES ADD TO INCREASED ATTRACTION OF PULSE CROPS FOR 2015 SOWING

Peter Busfield, commercial manager of pulse specialists Dunns (Long Sutton) Ltd, who are the UK exclusive marketing agent, comments: “Campus is a game-changing variety at 3% higher yielding than Prophet in official trials. We can see further evidence of this in the crops we have in the ground now to multiply the acreage for what we believe will be a significant demand for the variety in the coming season.

“The variety sets new standards in agronomics with its early ripening – and its standing power, with an outstanding 8 on the PGRO recommended list.

“When it come to the all-important value added market benefits, Campus has good colour retention and shows no brown staining, making it ideal for our end user customers.”

Craig Padley, LSPB’s pulse and oilseeds breeder, adds that the company has further winter and spring peas in the pipeline as breeders work hard to bring new varieties to the UK market: “Next in line is a high-yielding marrowfat variety which is currently a NL2 candidate. We have high hopes that in the future this will build further on the improved yield, field characteristics and marketability we offer with Campus.”
