HIGH VIGOUR OILSEED RAPE HYBRID WEMBLEY SUITS SEPTEMBER DRILLING
As September drilling of oilseed rape becomes a reality for an increased number of farmers this season, it is important to ensure varieties have high vigour scores in order that they get away strongly after drilling.
This is the advice from Tom Nickerson of breeder’s agents Ebbage Seeds: “As a hybrid, Wembley has one the best vigour scores in both autumn and the spring.”
“Scores from both breeders and independent agronomists trials show Wembley as the top variety for autumn vigour. For example, in breeder’s trials this season, Wembley rates an equal top of 7.8 mean for vigour.
“This high vigour claim is reinforced by a different set of trials by independent agronomists giving Wembley, once again, a top equal score for vigour - added to this is the variety’s top equal score for ground cover.
“These trials results - plus the top gross output of any hybrid in 2015 RL tables to date - provide the UK farmer with a very strong variety for autumn 2015 drilling,” adds Tom Nickerson.
