With the new 2016 PGRO Recommended Lists for combining peas and field beans just released, LS Plant Breeding Ltd (LSPB) now has a total of nine varieties in the recommended and provisionally recommended categories.
“We are delighted that the investment we have put into our pulse breeding programme is providing growers with a wider choice of improved, higher yielding varieties at a time when the pulse crop area is increasing,” says Theo Labuda, Managing Director of LS Plant Breeding Ltd (LSPB).
“Our market leading varieties of spring beans, Vertigo and Fanfare, maintain their position as the highest yielding varieties, while our new provisionally recommended variety Lynx looks set for next season and will bring improved resistance for downy mildew. Also our fourth spring bean on the RL, Fury, maintains its popularity with growers.
“The newly-announced PGRO RL for combining peas has our large blue variety Bluetooth provisionally recommended in top equal place, closely followed by fully-recommended Campus.
“Our fully-recommended white pea varieties Salamanca and Gregor give growers a strong choice in the white pea category.
“To bring the total up to nine LSPB varieties on the 2016 PGRO RL, our marrowfat pea Aikido is now provisionally recommended and leads the yield table.
“LS Plant Breeding has a long track record of success in pulses over the years and the renewed interest in the crop, spurred on by CAP greening measures, is matched by our established, new and pipeline varieties to give both current and new growers a wide choice of pulses,” adds Theo Labuda.
